Dad, Four Children Killed in Jeannette, PA, House Fire

"It's a very sad night here in Jeannette," said Fire Chief Bill Frye.

"It's a very sad night here in Jeannette."

That's how Jeannette Fire Chief Bill Frye said at the scene of a massive house fire that left four chuldren and their father dead. 

"Our firefighters and some bystanders and the police officers initially on scene were able to rescue three people from the house," the chief told KDKA

Those rescued include two children and their mother who remain hospitalized.

Firefighters had some challenges with water supply from a nearby hydrant. 

"Due to some complications, we were unable to get to everybody due to the progression of the fire..."

A fire lieutenant found the house fully involved when the approached the scene just after midnight. The blaze spread to the house next door. But those residents escaped without injury.

Firefighters, investigators and the coroner remain at the scene.

"Please keep the family and the first responders that responded tonight in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days and weeks here in the city."
