A massive midnight fire at the Squealing Pig pub in Mission Hill blazed hot enough to melt a light pole and parts of two cars across the street, Boston Fire reported Wednesday.
Around midnight Wednesday, Boston firefighters arrived to “heavy fire” at the neighborhood restaurant at 134 Smith Street and immediately ordered a second alarm, the department said.
A video from nearby Northeastern students, posted to the Boston Fire X account, shows tall flames engulfing the face of the building and billowing smoke taking over the block.
Just before 1 a.m. Boston Fire reported the fire was knocked down and there was “major overhauling throughout the one-story restaurant.” Photos from the department show a blackened and hollowed interior of the restaurant from the entrance wall.
The heat was so intense it visibly melted the top of a light pole and parts of two cars across the street from the site.
No one was injured in the blaze, Deputy Chief Michael Hocking briefed around 1:30 a.m. The Fire Investigation Unit was on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
The Squealing Pig has long been a neighborhood staple, offering live music, beer, and a creative range of tacos, pizza, burgers and more.
