Jun. 27—ALBANY — Four people were injured in a fire early Thursday morning in which some of the eight residents had to jump out of the building to escape, Fire Chief Joseph Gregory said.

The first call came in at 2:48 a.m. for a fire at 97 Clinton St., a three-story brick building two blocks west of South Pearl Street.

Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the second and third floors, with injured people outside the building.

The eight residents had fled the building "in one way or another," including jumping from it, the chief said. Four people were treated at the scene and brought to Albany Medical Center Hospital for their injuries.

Albany police spokesperson Officer Megan Craft said one person sustained a head injury. The patients Thursday morning were stable, Craft said.

Albany police and State Police also responded to the fire.

Gregory said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appeared to start on the building's second floor.

The American Red Cross was assisting the displaced occupants, who are all adults.
