Jul. 14—Dozens of firefighters worked Saturday night to knock down a massive fire at a pallet yard in Fontana.

The fire broke out Saturday night in the 15000 block of Whittram Avenue, near Arrow Route and Beech Avenue.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department said on social media the fire was reported at 8:14 p.m.

By the time it grew to a four-alarm fire, it was being attacked late Saturday by about 85 firefighters. Eighteen fire engines and five fire trucks were on scene.

The cause of the fire was not known. The massive flames were burning in about an acre in the yard and multiple commercial buildings were threatened, though ultimately adjacent buildings were saved.

The fire was put out a couple hours after aerial trucks flooded the area with streams of water, the fire agency said in an update at about 1:09 a.m. Sunday.

Besides stacked pallets, vehicles, trucks and trailers in the yard burned.

One firefighter sustained minor burns and there were no reported civilian injuries.

The Rancho Cucamonga, Rialto and Colton fire departments assisted in fighting the fire.
