Firefighters Tackle Flames Amid Clutter, Temps in Woonsocket, RI,

July 16, 2024
Clutter in the third-floor apartment created issues for crews as they tried to prevent the fire from spreading.

"Like a blowtorch."

That's how Woonsocket Fire Chief Robert Cahill describe a blaze in a multi-family home Monday evening.

Firefighters encountered heavy flames coming from the porch and windows, he told WPRI.

In addition to the intense fire and clutter, crews also had to battle the extreme elements.

Two firefighters and a civilian were treated for heat-related issues while two other people suffered minor injuries.
