Close Call for FDNY Firefighters at Staten Island Fire

July 21, 2024
As flames intensified, two firefighters climbed out a second-floor window onto a roof.

“Get out, guys.  Get out, guys."

Within seconds of that urgent message heard on the fireground, two firefighters climbed out a second-floor window and onto a roof of a burning house. One stepped down the ladder while the other slid down as the blaze intensified.

The fire started in the garage and quickly spread to the house, according to The Staten Island Advocate.

Neighbors watched as fire erupted in the dark, thick smoke.

Crews brought the fire under control in a little over an hour.

There were no injuries.
