Jul. 22—MIDDLETOWN — Four people jumped from a burning residence Sunday night and three dogs were rescued, firefighters said.
Neighbors caught a woman and two children and a man who jumped was injured, Middletown South Fire District officials said.
Middletown's South Fire District responded to the blaze in the multi-family building on Dunham Avenue around 8 p.m. Sunday, officials said. Crews arrived within five minutes and found heavy fire in the back part of the building.
While crews were on their way, they received reports of people who may be trapped in an upstairs apartment, firefighters said.
"Two of the occupants were children that were caught by neighbors," the fire district wrote on Facebook. "A female was also caught by neighbors and the male occupant jumped and was injured."
All four were taken to Middlesex Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries, firefighters said. In all, five people were displaced.
Crews were able to rescue three dogs from the burning building, the fire district said. The fire was under control within a half-hour.
Fire officials are asking the public for information about the rescuers, who they said saved lives.
"If you know the identities of the Good Samaritans, please contact South Fire District Chief James Trzaski, they were instrumental in saving the occupants life," the fire district said on Facebook.
