Portions of Route 3 East in Passaic County remain closed Tuesday morning as crews repair damage to the highway caused by a tractor-trailer that crashed into a barrier and exploded on Monday, killing the driver.

Two right lanes on the eastbound side of the highway near Grove Street in Clifton were closed Tuesday, as was the ramp from Valley Road to Route 3 East, according to 511nj.org. The lanes are scheduled to reopen by 3 p.m., according to the website.

The tractor-trailer was traveling west on Route 3 in Clifton on Monday when it collided with a commuter bus before hitting the barrier and bursting into flames. The bus pulled over following the crash and none of its occupants were injured, according to Clifton officials.

The driver, a 55-year-old man from Linden, was found dead inside the truck. His name had not been released as of early Tuesday.

The crash, reported shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, forced lane closures and heavy traffic delays for most of the day.

All lanes were closed in both directions on a stretch of the highway near Grove Street until about until about 6 p.m.
