Los Angeles County firefighters battled a blaze that involved at least 1,500 vehicles in a scrap yard.

As large plumes of black smoke billowed, residents were told to shelter in place while deputies evacuated businesses, KCAL reported.

Firefighters were worried that the winds and heat would exacerbate the blaze noting that it was about 103 degrees when the fire started.

There were no reports of injuries.
