Smoke Alarms Alert Wake Forest, NC, Family to House Fire

A Northern Wake firefighter fell down stairs while a Wake Forest firefighter was overcome by heat.

A smoke alarm alerted a Wake Forest family about a house fire Monday afternoon.

Firefighters said the early warning allowed them to escape unharmed.

During the operation, two firefighters were injured and transported for treatment, WTVD reported. 

A Northern Wake firefighter fell while hauling hose down the stairs into the basement where the fire started. He was taken to Duke Medical Center to be evaluated. His injuries are not life-threatening.

A Wake Forest firefighter suffered a heat-related issue and was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The cause remains under investigation.
