Six-Alarm Fire in Chelsea, MA, Forces Dozens to Flee

Aug. 14, 2024
Chelsea Fire Chief John Quatieri said the roof collapsed during the operation early Wednesday.

All residents of a Chelsea apartment building were accounted for after a massive blaze early Wednesday.

There were concerns that some may not have escaped. But fire officials worked to the building's owner to check the names of people taken to a shelter after the fire broke out.

"It is a large building, late at night. Everybody was sleeping. They did a fantastic job getting everyone out..." Chelsea Fire Chief John Quatieri told WCVB.

The roof collapsed as firefighters operated to control the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
