Sep. 8—A wildfire in the Angeles National Forest grew to about 800 acres by Sunday evening, Sept. 8, prompting road closures and evacuations in the area.

Firefighters responded to the Bridge fire in the area of East Fork Road near Glendora Mountain Road in San Gabriel Canyon, the Angeles National Forest said on social media around 2:16 p.m. The fire was within Cattle Canyon, officials said.

Visitors were evacuated from the forest above the Glendora and Azusa area as crews called for a second-alarm response. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department issued a mandatory evacuation order for the Camp Williams Resort outside of Azusa on East Fork Road, which includes a mobile home park, campgrounds and a cafe as well as the adjacent river community.

Crews responded from the air and ground to attack the fire and prepared an effort to hold containment at Glendora Ridge Road.

Night-flying helicopters were assigned to attack the fire Sunday night.

Forest officials said Highway 39 was closed at the mouth of the canyon, and all of East Fork, Glendora Mountain and Glendora Ridge roads were closed due to vehicle congestion.
