One person is dead and a woman is in the hospital with burn injuries after a fire early Tuesday destroyed an Antelope home.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews were called at 12:23 a.m. to the fire at 7648 Tartan Drive in Antelope and found the home “well involved” by the time they arrived, said Metro Fire Capt. Mark Nunez. Firefighters soon discovered the body of one of the home’s occupants, Nunez said.

The person’s name has not yet been released pending notification of family by Sacramento County coroner’s officials. The fire remains under investigation.

A woman also inside the home survived, Nunez said. She was taken first to Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael before being transferred to the UC Davis Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center, Nunez said.
