Yacht with Fireworks, Ammunition Erupts in Marina del Rey, CA

As Los Angeles County firefighters operated, fireworks started exploding out of the vessel.

A 100-foot yacht that had fireworks and ammunition aboard erupted in flames Wednesday night.

The two aboard the yacht, docked in Marina del Rey, managed to escape without injury.

The owner told Los Angeles County firefighters that in addition to fireworks, there were approximately 1,000 rounds of ammunition on the starboard side of the vessel, KTLA reported. 

As crews worked to contain the blaze, which was threatening nearby boats and structures, fireworks began exploding out of the vessel. 

a boom in the area where the boat was docked to capture any contaminants, including diesel fuel, coming from the vessel as it was sinking.

The investigation continues.
