Milwaukee Fire Station, Closed Since 2018, Could Reopen on South Side

Sept. 26, 2024
A fire near the shuttered station in April left a woman dead and a firefighter injured, Fire Chief Aaron Lipski said.

A Milwaukee fire station on the city's south side could reopen if funds for the fire department are approved.

After a fatal fire in April not far from the shuttered station, Fire Chief Aaron Lipski pushed for its reopening, Fox 6 reported.

"We had a 5-minute response time. This is what we have been telling you. This is the difference," said Chief Lipski after the fire that left a woman dead and a firefighter injured.

The mayor's proposed budget for 2025 would increase fire department funds by 4.6%. About 20% of the budget goes towards the fire department.
