Scranton firefighters didn't have to wait until they got close to Schoenberg Companies to realize they had a working incident. The heavy smoke was visible for miles.
“Table salt was the majority of the product that was in their boxed table salt ready for packaging for supermarkets,” Scranton Fire Chief John Judge IV told PAhomepage.
Cardboard and other materials fed the fire.
“At some point we we make our way in safely, but the building is pretty well compromised at this point. It’s lost the roof."
The five employees of the salt warehouse made it out safely.
