A three-alarm fire, possibly fueled by high winds, spread to multiple homes in Newark Tuesday afternoon.

Several homes on a block in Newark were burning Tuesday afternoon.

It was reported around 5:15 p.m. at Montgomery and Avon avenues and quickly spread.

The fire reached three alarms, bringing dozens of firefighters to the scene as flames engufled at least four home, according to ABC7.

The television station said firefighters put an all-out assult from the air and ground.

Wind gusts reached 20 mph, according to the television station.

Fire officials said they encountered a dead hydrant near the scene, and low water pressure at other nearby hydrants.

News12.com reports that firefighters from Jersey City and West New York were called to help Newark crews.

"It is a bit windy out here, which may have contributed," Fox 5 helicopter reporter Dan Rice said in a live broadcast. "One of the biggest problems that firefighters are going to have is this wooded area behind those houses, trying to get in there, trying to get that fire under control is one right now."
