Six buildings were damaged in a fire at industrial park overnight Monday, officials said.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded about 10:40 p.m. to what 911 callers initially reported as grass or trees ablaze, but the first firefighters on scene found multiple pallets burning in the 1700 block of Empire Central Drive.
The fire was already in “advanced stages” and high winds made it rapidly spread to surrounding buildings, prompting roughly 60 to 70 firefighters to respond within an hour, according to a DFR news release.
The fire, which continued into Tuesday morning, was eventually contained to an area bordered by Empire Central Drive, Oakbrook Boulevard and Prudential Drive, but six buildings and a transfer station had already been damaged.
Multiple firefighters remained on the scene as of 6 a.m. knocking down what remained of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
As of 7:15 a.m. only about 200 customers were without power near the area of the fire, according to the Oncor outage map, but a spokesperson at the scene told WFAA-TV ( Channel 8) the agency had turned off power in the area to protect firefighters, impacting up to 1,400 customers at one point.
Dallas-Fort Worth has recently been under an increased risk for fires because of the warm, dry weather. The risk is expected to stay elevated this week as the forecast lacks rain chances.
