Detroit Firefighters Battle Multiple House Fires early Friday

While one was occupied, Detroit Fire Chief Carl Billings said he isn't sure if the residents were home when the fire started early Friday.

Detroit fire crews are battling multiple house fires on the city's east side including one that burned to its foundation.

Detroit Fire Chief Carl Billings said two of the homes that caught fire early Friday were unoccupied, and firefighters allowed one to burn to the foundation.

There was also a garage fire behind one of the structures, WXYZ reported.

The fire spread to the homes surrounding the original house.

Billings said while one home was occupied, firefighters are not sure if the residents were there when the fire broke out.

The incident remains under investigation.
