Firefighters were battling a 3-alarm house fire in Brookline on Thursday, according to local departments.

The blaze was reported at 90 Sargent Road in Brookline — which is valued at more than $13 million, according to the Town of Brookline’s residential property record card database.

Firefighters responded at about 10:40 a.m. for reports of smoke coming from the attic. They found heavy smoke coming from the attic of the large, L-shaped, three-story home. A second alarm was struck.

Firefighters began attacking the fire from inside the home, but then transitioned to a defensive attack from outside, as conditions deteriorated and a portion of the home’s roof collapsed.

A third alarm was struck at about 11 a.m. to bring additional resources to the scene.

After about two hours, “most of the heavy fire is knocked down,” Brookline Fire posted at 12:30 p.m.

“Firefighters remain on scene for overhaul and checking for extension,” the fire department added. “Strong work by group 4 and a huge thank you to Cambridge, Boston and Newton for their assistance and coverage.”

All five residents evacuated safely. There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation by the Brookline Fire Department, but “at this time it does not appear to be suspicious,” officials said.

Police were telling people to avoid the area.

“Traffic Advisory: Brookline Fire Department dealing with structure fire in Warren/ Walnut St area: please avoid area if possible,” Brookline Police posted.
