BURTON, MI – A Burton business has been reduced to rubble following a fire Tuesday morning near the intersection of East Maple and South Center roads.

Burton Fire Chief Kirk Wilkinson said his department was called out at 7:02 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, to the scene of a fire at Andrews Upholstery, located at 4496 Commercial Ave.

Wilkinson said the Andrews Upholstery building is “100% burned out,” noting that pole barn style buildings like it don’t hold up well in fires.

“It just is a total loss,” he said.

The fire also damaged a neighboring commercial building used for storage.

Nobody was in the building at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Portions of Maple and Center roads were temporarily closed as firefighters worked to suppress the fire.

The Burton Fire Department left the scene of the fire at 1:02 p.m. Tuesday.

The Burton Fire Department received mutual aid from several departments from neighboring communities, including Grand Blanc Township, the city of Grand Blanc, Flint Township, Mundy Township, Swartz Creek, and Davison.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
