Medina, OH, Crew Temporarily Trapped on Exterior Staircase

A resident on the third floor perished in the fire, Medina Fire Chief Larry Walters said.

The early Sunday fire that briefly trapped firefighters and claimed a man's life remains under investigation.

Medina firefighters and police tried to use an exterior staircase, but the flames intensified and they were briefly trapped, WOIO reported. 

The man was rescued from the third floor and transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Medina Fire Chief Larry Walters said the county's peer support team was called as the incident took a toll on firefighters.
