A large fire at a scrap metal facility on Thursday afternoon is now under control by Miami Dade Fire Rescue.

Over 45 rescue units battled the third alarm blaze near the 3700 block of Northwest North River Drive, according to MDFR. Around 11: 30 a.m., crews found a “column of thick black smoke and fire” coming from a pile of scrap metal.

Firefighters deployed hose lines and two fireboats to attack the fire from the water.

The MIA camera shows heavy smoke in the area.

Miami-Dade Transit said in a post on X that “Due to a fire near the Metrorail Orange Line between Earlington Heights and the Airport Station (unrelated to our system), there may be some service delays.”

MDFR advises that people with respiratory issues should avoid the area due to heavy smoke. There have been no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This is a developing story.
