At least four homes were destroyed and several others damaged by a four-alarm brush California fire Wednesday, leading to the evacuation of residents..
The massive, fast-moving vegetation fire erupted just before 3:30 p.m. near the Suisun City Wildfire Center, Suisiun City Fire Chief Justin Vincent told KPIX-TV. The strong winds and 100-degree heat stoked the flames into a four-alarm fire.
Around 200 firefighters from multiple agencies responded to the blaze. The departments that assisted Suisun City included Contra Costa County, Fairfield, Crockett, El Cerrito, Rodeo-Hercules and Con Fire.
Evacuations were ordered for some residents as the brush fire destroyed at least four homes. Flames also damaged at least seven other homes.
No injuries have been reported, but birds at the wildlife center died, according to KPIX. Firefighters were able to cut the cages and free foxes, rabbits and coyotes at the center.
The brush fire's cause is not known.
