Flames from a grass fire quickly spread to a Balch Springs neighborhood that damaged 26 homes Monday afternoon.
Aerial videos showed a wide area of fire involving both structures and fields near Interstate 20 and South Beltline Road, according to WFAA.com.
Officials told WFAA that a crew cutting grass may have sparked the grass fire that was fanned by 20 mph winds.
"From what we understand, it was a spark from the mowers and it just spread to the houses," Susan Cluse, city manager for Balch Springs, told the television station.
Firefighters from a number of departments were attempting to control the wind-swept blazes.
The fire burned for close to two hours before it was placed under control.
