Two Boston Firefighters Hurt in Six-Alarm Apartment Fire

A six-alarm apartment fire, fueled by a natural gas leak, hurt one resident and two Boston firefighters, caused $2 million and displaced 36 people.

The fire broke out early Saturday morning, at about 5:50 a.m. in the West Roxbury portion of the city, according to the television station WCVB 5 News.

By the time firefighters arrived flames had spread through all three floors and was in the roof structure, the television station reported.

Among those rescued from the blaze was an off-duty firefighter and his wife, according to the television station.

Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly two hours while crews worked to shut off the gas, according to WCVB. Residents had complained about a smell of gas in the building for months before the blaze happened.

The two firefighters and resident injured during the fire were hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries, the television station reported.  There were no sprinklers in the building.
