San Bernardino County firefighters took part in an annual river and floodwater rescue class at the Big Bend State Park in Nevada.
Captain Donnie Viloria, who serves as USAR team coordinator, lead the program that focuses on self-rescue.
Students were encouraged to increase their awareness and familiarity of moving water hazards. Students also designed and built technical rope rescue systems for assisting victims that may be trapped in or around moving water.
San Bernardino County Fire maintains a roster of several swiftwater rescue technicians. The program met the California State Fire Marshal Offices' curriculum and USAR training requirements.
