Car Plows Through Okla. Homecoming Crowd; Three Dead

Oct. 24, 2015
Ten people were critically injured when a car drove through a crowd at Oklahoma State University's homecoming parade in Stillwater.

The driver of the vehicle that drove through a crowd celebrating Oklahoma State University's homecoming has been arrested. She is charged with driving under the influence.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. at Main Street and Hall of Fame in Stillwater during OSU's homecoming parade.

"We were probably 10 feet away, when the vehicle came barreling through. We heard somebody scream, 'Look out!.' (They) plowed through a police motorcycle, and then a crowd of people," Dave Kapple told the Stillwater News Press. "People were flying everywhere."

A police officer on a motorcycle was among those struck, and several witnesses said children were among the injured.

Several medical helicopters were summoned to the scene to transport the critically injured. Officials say 10 people are in critical condition.

"At first we thought it was part of the show," witness Konda Walker said. "People were flying 30 feet into the air like rag dolls."

Officials told the newspaper that 27 people were transported from the scene by helicopters, ambulances, private vehicles and a university bus.

OSU is the home of IFSTA, OSU Fire Protection Publications and a well-known fire protection technology program.
