San Jose firefighters rescued a pedestrian who was hit and stuck beneath a light rail train at a station early Tuesday.

Authorities rescued a man seemingly stuck under a light rail train in San Jose early Tuesday morning.

At about 12:55 a.m., San Jose firefighters and Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Virginia Station off of West Virginia Street and Highway 87, according to Sheriff spokesperson Sgt. Michael Low.

They found a man stuck under the train in the station, Low said, and firefighters worked to remove him. It was not clear how or why he became stuck.

Valley Transportation Authority, which oversees the light rail system, could not immediately be reached for comment.

The man was transported to a local hospital; an update on his condition was not available.

Deputies closed down the station and passengers were re-routed.
