One person was killed and at least five were injured when a tornado caused extensive damage to the Monette Manor Nursing home.

A deadly tornado ripped through Monette Friday night, leaving one dead and five injured when the roof of a nursing home collapsed as storms swept across multiple states.

At least 20 people were trapped inside the Monette Manor nursing home, Craighead County Judge Marvin Day told KAIT8.com.

Early on, officials said two people were killed, but the coroner's office later confirmed that there was only one fatality, the television station reported.

Local media reported that nursing home had 90 beds.

Facility staff requested that local residents with medical training come to the site to assist with the facility's residents, according to WREG.
