ELYRIA, Ohio — A young child was seriously injured Thursday after falling about 15 onto rocks near the Black River at Cascade Park.

A news release from the Elyria Fire Department says firefighters and police were called to the park at about 3 p.m. The girl, whose age was not released, was in a “precarious spot” between large rocks and the river near the West Falls under the Lake Avenue Bridge, the release says.

Police, firefighters and rangers with Lorain County Metro Parks needed about 40 minutes to free the girl. She was then flown by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Elyria Fire Chief Joseph Pronesti tells WKYC Channel 3 the girl is expected to make a “full recovery.”
