On Friday night at approximately 7:30 p.m., 15 members of the Los Angeles Chargers traveling party including star quarterback Justin Herbert got stuck in a Dallas elevator and had to be rescued by Dallas Fire-Rescue.

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh praised Herbert for his leadership while trapped.

“I wish I could have been there with those guys, you know, but Justin Herbert was,” said Harbaugh, “A leader, he was a rock. Kept everybody calm. [Chargers personnel] told me the same thing, pulled me aside after they got out, just how great Justin was. ... I was proud of each of the guys and the two women that were on that elevator.”

The elevator’s occupants were stuck in a blind shaft between the third and 15th floors and had to be transferred to another elevator by rescuers.

Harbaugh said being stuck in that elevator brought those people closer together.

“There’s a camaraderie amongst that group that is even stronger than it was before, and it was hot, especially as each person came off the elevator, sweating. Some had the shirt off. Justin Herbert, his hair was a little wet, but his shirt was completely dry. That’s another thing that blew me away. The guy is just a beast., “ said Harbaugh.

The former Michigan coach also praised Dallas Fire-Rescue for their efforts and invited members to a meal with the team.

“The Dallas Fire Department, take a deep, long bow. You know, I said at one point, this is Dallas’ finest,” said Harbaugh, “ They were incredible.”

“Without the Dallas Fire Department, it could have been a lot worse. Would have been a lot more hours,” said Harbaugh, “Who knows how it would have ended?”
