Firefighters rescued a man late Wednesday after they say he fell into an abandoned silo, according to reports.

The man, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Emergency crews responded about 11:45 p.m. to the 1900 block of South Main Street, a few blocks down the street from John Peter Smith Hospital, and called for a high-angle rescue response, the Fort Worth Fire Department told multiple TV stations.

The man had fallen more than 10 feet into the grain silo and was rescued using a rope system that allowed him to be lowered from a fifth-story window then lowered to the ground by crews, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported.

Crews treated the man’s injuries inside the silo before hoisting him out, officials told WFAA-TV ( Channel 8). He was on the ground by about 2 a.m. and taken to the hospital.

A different abandoned silo has garnered recent attention as Fort Worth officials ordered razing permits for a grain silo and elevator in the 3700 block of Alice Street that residents have called an eyesore and danger to the community, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported in July.
