Video captured by a witness shows the incredible moment when a Mesa firefighter dives beneath the surface and brings a woman out of a car that had plunged into a canal during monsoon storms on Monday.
It's unclear exactly how the vehicle wound up in the canal, but fire officials said the unidentified woman, who was in her 50s, was likely able to breathe in an air pocket inside the fully submerged car.
"She's very lucky," said Mesa Fire Department Special Operations Capt. Dean Morales. "She's very lucky."
