CONNEAUT, OH—Two adults were flown to a Cleveland hospital and two children were taken there by ambulance following a boat accident at Conneaut Harbor late Monday night.
The accident was first reported on Monday at 11:12 p.m., when the Conneaut Fire Department was called to the harbor on a report of a boat stuck on the wall with four occupants on board, Assistant Chief Steve Sanford said.
The 20-foot boat had struck a west break wall and traveled up the wall, he said.
Sanford said it took a while to find the boat, but rescue crews were aided in finding it by a 10-year-old girl on the boat who called 9-1-1 after the crash and helped guide crews to their location.
"That is one awesome 10-year-old girl to keep her composure," he said.
The four boaters — two adults, the girl and a 3-year-old, all from the Pittsburgh area, Sanford said — were taken onto another boat and were brought to shore. The two adults suffered extensive injuries and the children "were pretty lucky" that their injuries were not as severe, he said.
The Lake City Fire Co. was called in to assist Conneaut firefighters at the accident, according to Erie County 911.
