Croton, MI, Firefighters Rescue Snowmobilers

NEWAYGO COUNTY, MI — Firefighters made a successful rescue after two snowmobilers fell through ice at Croton Pond, east of Newaygo, late Thursday, Feb. 13.
Police said one of the riders made it out on their own while the second needed to be rescued by firefighters.
Newaygo County sheriff’s deputies responded to Croton Pond about 10:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 on a report that two snowmobiles had fallen through the ice.
Deputies arrived and found that one person made to shore on their own. Croton Fire Department rescuers then were able to find and rescue the second person, who was still in the water.
Both persons were taken to Gerber Memorial and treated for hypotermia.
Police said that alcohol is believed a factor in the incident.
