A 64-year-old parks employee was rescued Thursday night by firefighters as rains flooded a Pittsville Park.
The worker was trying to clear campers and block the roadway along the Yellow River at Northwood County Park when the raging waters carried his pickup truck off the road.
The Richfield Rural Fire Department along with 8 other agencies responded to the scene at approximately 10:03 p.m., and deployed their water rescue assets, according to Fox11.
Automatic aid agencies that responded with Richfield Rural Fire Department were Arpin, Hewitt, Pittsville, Remington, Vesper, and Wood County Sheriff’s Rescue. Additional assitance was provided by the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, Marshfield Ambulance and Nieman’s Towing.
In a dramatic video, the swiftwater rescue personnel can be seen deploying a rapid deployment craft (RDC) to reach the vehicle. They placed a personal floatation device on the occupant and moved him to the RDC, which was then towed to shore by rescuers on land. The occupant was evaluated by EMS and was released.
All units were clear of the scene just before midnight.
