FL Fire Station Adopts Stray Dog

Feb. 18, 2022
The DeLand Fire Department adopted Henry "Hank" DeLand, a stray pooch they rescued in the past, for their fire station.

The DeLand Fire Department adopted Henry "Hank" DeLand, a stray dog that was running around in their new Station 81 during last month's opening ceremony.

The crews were able to catch Hank and turned him over to animal control.

After 30 days, no one claimed the pooch so the firefighters decided to keep him, according to their Facebook post.

"Henry is in the process of getting microchipped, neutered, and getting all of his shots,” the department said.

“The goal of having a station dog is to provide some love and comfort to our crews as they come and go throughout their long 24-hour shifts away from home.”

Hank will also accompany firefighters when they attend community events around town.
