Two Boston firefighters were injured while battling a stubborn blaze at a laundromat early Thursday morning, according to The Boston Herald.
Crews responded a call of a fire in the basement at 61 Franklin Street in the Allston neighborhood at approximately 1:14 a.m.
Firefighters battled the two-alarm blaze for three to four hours, department spokesman Steve MacDonald told the newspaper.
They wre unable to access the cellar and used saw to cut through the floor and sprayed water down, flooding the area by close to four feet in order to put out the flames.
"It was just a very stubborn fire to fight," MacDonald said. "It was literally cutting open the floors. You have to get the nozzles down, but they didn’t have the best angles to get the water on the fire. The firefighters had their work cut out for them."
The two injured firefighters were transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital with minor injuries.
One sustained a shoulder injury and another had a knee suffered after falling down the stairs to the cellar.
Both were treated and released from the hospital.
The laundromat and two attached storefronts received roughly $250,000 in damages.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
