North Carolina Firefighter Struck at Crash Scene

A King firefighter was struck by a car at the scene of a wreck Monday morning.

Lt. Les Collins was monitoring traffic following a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Highway 52 North when the incident occurred around 5 a.m., according to WFMY-TV.

The car drove through the coned-off area, sideswiped a department vehicle and hit the firefighter, throwing him about 100 feet.

Collins was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital stable condition and continues to be evaluated.

The driver of the car, 59-year-old William Blythe, was charged with careless and reckless driving.

The incident is being investigated by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
