A smoke explosion occurred as Dayton firefighters battled a house fire early Wednesday morning.
As crews fought the fire at 818 Campbell Street that was reported around 2 a.m., the smoke explosion occurred, sending debris on the porch down on them, according to WHIO-TV.
Officials said no one was injured during the incident or the fire and that a woman living there was able to get out in time.
"Fortunately, we’re trained to recognize things going on," Assistant Chief Jeffrey Payne told the news station. "We have some excellent fire gear that keeps us safe."
The fire started in the home's basement, but the actual cause is currently under investigation.
The damage to the structure is such that it will likely be considered a total loss, officials said.
