Crews in Coalinga managed to keep the fire from spreading to a third building.

Oct. 27--Two buildings in a Coalinga commercial business complex were destroyed in an early morning fire causing at least $500,000 in loss and damages, a fire spokesman said.

Twenty-one fire personnel from the Coalinga Fire Department, including crews from the Fresno County Fire Protection District, reported to the 6 a.m. fire in the 500 block of E. Polk Street.

A heavy fire had already started in one of three buildings and was spreading to a second when crews arrived, the department said. Firefighters worked to prevent the fire from reaching the third building.

The two buildings that were on fire were privately owned and used as storage, said Capt. Keith Krider. The third building was a Dish Network and cell phone contractor and also housed an insurance office, he said.

The preliminary loss and damage estimate is $500,000, but that could rise, Krider said. The case is under investigation.
