A Union Beach firefighter died Sunday night while battling a structure fire.
Robert 'Hawk' Meyer, 54, collapsed after emerging from the blaze in a hydraulics manufacturing facility.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office told the Asbury Park Press that the firefighter collapsed outside the building. It is unknown if he had been in the building prior to collapsing.
The blaze at Hydrair, a company that manufactures hydraulics, went to three alarms, and was still burning hours later.
"I saw lots of flames, and thick black smoke," neighbor Donna Covert told reporters.
