The intruder smashed a window and broke into the Palermo station.

When a burglar broke into a Butte County fire station early Wednesday, he probably didn't expect to find a firefighter.

The intruder broke a window and entered the Palermo fire station just after 1 a.m., not long after firefighters were dispatched to a call, according to KRCR.

He was confronted by a firefighter who didn't go on the call, deputies reported.

After a struggle, the suspect ran out the back door.

It turns out there was no fire at a local school.
