A fast-moving fire trapped two Jackson firefighters inside a house fire Tuesday.
They found that the residents had escaped.
"When units arrived on the scene, they reported smoke coming out of the basement," Jackson Fire Chief R.D. Simpson told The Clarion-Ledger. "Our units made an interior attack, and while doing an interior attack the fire spread rapidly, trapping two of our firefighters. The firefighters were able to, because of the procedures and tactics we use, they were able to use their secondary means of egress and they were able to get out of the structure."
The two firefighters were sent to the hospital for further evaluation. A third firefighter, along with the two occupants, were taken to the hospital.
The blaze eventually engulfed the two-story home, and crews worked to keep it from spreading to nearby homes.
"The wind always plays a role in all kinds of fires because it makes it difficult by spreading flames away from it," the chief said.
Eight fire companies were summoned to the scene.
