Police officers used fire trucks for protection Tuesday morning after a standoff in Springfield.
Police and fire crews were called to the home on W. Ildereen St. after woman called 911 when her boyfriend set the house on fire. She told dispatchers he was acting strangely she believed she heard several gunshots as she escaped the home, according to KY3.com.
The police department's Special Response Team surrounded the home burning home and a negotiator used tried to get the man to come out.
As flames engulfed the home, firefighters used an aerial ladder and hoselines for two hours to knock back flames.
Officials are still at the scene, digging through the rubble to determine if the man perished in the structure, or escaped.
