Flashover Leaves Two NJ Firefighters with Serious Burns

Dec. 13, 2016
Three Paterson firefighters were caught in the flashover and two sustained serious burns.

Paterson's fire chief said two firefighters will be in the hospital for several days after they were sustained serious burns.

Capt. Frank Liscio and firefighters Daniel Alcala and Brian Hirschmanner were caught by a flashover while they were operating on the third floor of an East 18th Street apartment building Saturday.

"They did everything they could to get out of there," Chief Michael Postorino told the Paterson Press. "The captain dove over the railing."

Liscio and Hirschmanner are being treated for serious burns at St. Barnabas Burn Center and the chief said it's the worst burns sustained by members in over a decade.

Alcala was released from the hospital on Sunday.

No residents were injured in the fire.
