NC Fire Truck Hit at Scene While Blocking Lanes

A Concord fire aerial was hit by a BMW while it blocked the scene of a previous crash overnight Monday.

A Concord fire aerial sustained significant damage after a BMW sideswiped it while it blocked the scene of a previous crash overnight Monday.

According to television station WSOCTV, Concord firefighters were at the scene of a two-car crash on Interstate 85 using the aerial to block the three left lanes of the interstate.

The vehicle hit the fire truck, pinning the driver in the vehicle and causing serious injuries. Firefighters worked to extricate him and he was taken to Carolinas Medical Center Northeast, where he underwent emergency surgery, the television station reported.

There were no firefighters in the vehicle when it was hit and no firefighters were injured as a result of the crash, the station reported.

The apparatus sustained front end damage and was towed from the scene about two hours after being hit, according to WSOCTV.
