IA Firefighter Dies in Crash While Driving to Training

A West Burlington firefighter died in a crash while he and others were traveling to the State Fire School in Ames.

A West Burlington firefighter died in a crash Friday night while he and others were traveling to State Fire School in Ames.

James Franciskovich, 52, and two other firefighters were in the fire department pickup truck when it rolled over near Pella, according to local television station WQAD.

Franciskovic was ejected from the vehicle after it rolled over and landed on its roof in a ditch, television station WHOTV reported. 

West Burlington Shane McCampbell and Carrie Falcon were treated and released.

"Please keep Firefighter Franciskovich's family, both in blood, and in the fire service in your thoughts," the West Burlington Fire Department posted on Facebook. "Rest easy Firefighter James Franciskovich, we have the watch from here."
