MI Chief Struck and Killed Responding to Accident

Comstock Fire & Rescue Chief Edward Switalski was killed Wednesday night on I-94 near Kalamazoo.

June 15--A Kalamazoo County fire chief was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was responding to a car accident on Wednesday night.

WZZM reports that Comstock Fire & Rescue Chief Edward Switalski was with his crew on I-94 near Kalamazoo around 9:30 p.m. when the incident occurred.

Firefighters said the chief was loading equipment into his rescue vehicle when a driver lost control of their car and hit Switalski, who died at the scene despite efforts from fellow firefighters.

It's unclear how the driver, who was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital, lost control of the vehicle.
